Book suggestions
  • How Networks Work (7th edition, 2004) has the virtue of being very visual. Older editions are available for cheap but they are a bit more dated.
  • Windows XP users may be interested in Home Networking Simplified, which was published by Cisco. It has some helpful illustrations. I'm not in love with the book. Because Cisco owns Linksys, the book focuses on Linksys products.
